Ritual Bowls

The 2020 series Fragments include the Ritual Bowls. These small-scale cup and bowl based forms were made by manipulating very wet clay over shapes and allowed to slightly set. They are then carved to their final form. Once bisque fired they were soaked in soda ash solution and high fired. The pieces were all "cold finished" by applying lacquer and metal leaf.

Ritual Bowls are fragments of something larger, that have been lost or damaged over time and whose purposes are unknown. Their fully-formed images and content is left to the viewer's imagination.
