Meteorites are the visual and conceptual source for this series of ceramic sculpture created in the spring of 2013. They also reference and are informed by Chinese Gongshi, commonly known as Scholar Stones. Using white, red and black clay bodies each of the pieces was created by manipulating a hand-built sphere from the wet or leather-hard state by hand or with simple trimming tools. Pieces are both high fired to cone 10 utilizing typical studio glazes and stains and low fired in a traditional Japanese Raku technique and in beach pit firings. The pieces have no specific orientation, as there are no bottoms or tops. They can be placed however one prefers and can be changed whenever desired. They are meant to be admired for their inherent character.
