Shells

Shells is a series of forms based on the generic sea shell created in 2012 and  2013. Earlier pieces were based on the California Mussel and primarily high fired. Most of the shells seen here are more abstract and were constructed from a simple circle of clay, scored and folded into a curved and conical shape. These pieces have all been raku fired, the glazed pieces are taken out of the kiln at about 1800 degrees and placed in closed "reduction" chambers to intensify the color of the glaze and clay body.
