Fragments include the five Anguished Angels on Perilous Perches, The Seven Fatal Nightmares - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, among other small woks. The Ritual Bowls concluded the Fragment series and have their own page.
Created over seven months, during the 2020 pandemic quarantine, Fragments emerged in an effort to completely change my mode of working in clay. I consciously endeavored to create a new body of small scale abstract images based on manipulating clay by cutting and slicing still wet forms. Once bisque fired they were soaked in a soda ash solution and high fired. The pieces were all "cold finished" by applying lacquer and metal leaf. As the works developed they often took on their own characteristics of content suggested subsequent directions to explore. The Anguished Angels and Seven Fatal Nightmares speak to the forms and the times in which they were created. These works subsequently evolved into cup-like shapes and larger shallow forms that revealed themselves to be Fragment Ritual Bowls, seen on their own website page.
Fragments are a parts of something larger, which have been lost or damaged over time. Their fully- formed images and content is left to the viewer's imagination.
